This
site is a central repository for activities in the Computer Vision and
Robotics Research Lab related to the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG)
contract. A key component of this site is a maintained progress report
section. An up-to-date list of activities and technical reports/publications
are provided. This site allows timely dissemination of information pertaining
to the TSWG contract.

The
ability to accurately detect faces in a video stream under a wide range
of illumination and environmental conditions is of great practical value,
but it is still a very challenging research problem. Relevance of such
capabilities for combating terrorism was very clearly articulated in the
RFP prepared by the USD (AT&L) TSWG BAA right after the unfortunate
incidents of September 11, 2001. Our research team has pursued video segmentation,
face detection and person identification, and tracking research over the
past several years and has developed a number of powerful and promising
new approaches.
